Diabetes Management in the GLP-1 Era: What Every PCP Needs to Know

Justin B. Moore, MD, FACP | March 26, 2025 | 12-1 PM CT

What you'll learn:

  • Explain how GLP-1 receptor agonists work and their benefits beyond glycemic control (e.g., weight loss, cardiovascular and renal protection).
  • Compare GLP-1s to other diabetes medications in terms of effectiveness, side effects, and long-term outcomes.
  • Determine which type 2 diabetes patients in primary care benefit most from GLP-1 receptor agonists based on comorbidities (e.g., obesity, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease).
  • Discuss who should not receive GLP-1s due to contraindications or tolerability issues.
  • Discuss primary care’s role in using GLP-1s for obesity management, even in non-diabetic patients.
