Heart Failure & Hypertension: Early Intervention in Primary Care

  • Recognize early heart failure presentations in older adults using history, exam, and first-line diagnostics
  • Initiate and titrate guideline-directed medical therapy for heart failure in primary care with appropriate safety monitoring
  • Apply an evidence-based approach to hypertension management in older adults, including medication selection and identification of resistant patterns
  • Determine when cardiology eConsult is sufficient versus when face-to-face referral or emergent evaluation is needed
  • Utilize eConsults effectively to obtain cardiology guidance for heart failure and hypertension concerns in older adults

About the presenter

Mohamed Morsy, MD, is an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Virginia Health System, where he serves on the core teaching faculty for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Vascular Medicine fellowship program. He received his medical degree from the University of Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in Egypt and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at West Penn Hospital. Dr. Morsy is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and holds additional certifications in Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, CT Angiography, and Vascular Medicine. His primary clinical interests include heart failure, cardiac imaging, and preventive cardiology.
